About Me.

Herman is a lifelong resident of Detroit and has dedicated his life to serving his community. He is both a minister and an attorney, with over 15 years of experience as a minister and over 10 years of experience as a lawyer. Herman specializes in criminal defense and family law and has helped countless individuals throughout Michigan who could not afford the assistance of an attorney.

 

Herman graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in English, where he joined Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Epsilon chapter. He later earned a degree in religion from Howard University. Herman became a Generation Change Fellow of the Center of Community Change in Washington, D.C. During his fellowship, Herman was trained in alternative dispute resolution techniques and community organizing.

 

At Cooley Law School, Herman was a member of the Family Law Assistance Project (FLAP), which provided free family law assistance to victims of domestic violence. Herman's commitment to his community continued after law school, and from 2020 to 2022, he served as defense counsel for the city of Detroit's Mental Health Specialty Court.

 

Herman is passionate about education and helping others. He teaches a monthly legal class at the Southwest Community Justice Center of Detroit to stop human trafficking and other related crimes. Currently, Herman is finishing his doctoral degree in transformational leadership at Boston University and leads Griffin Law PLLC.

Career Highlights 

  • Ordained Minister. As a minister, Herman gives public speeches, teaches religious classes, performs weddings, officiates funerals, mediates disputes, and provides trauma support. He also organized a religious Educational Conference with Howard University and the Detroit Council of Baptist Pastors and Vicinity. 

  • 36th District Mental Health Court—Defense Counsel. Herman was one of only two mental health court defense counsels for Detroit. He tirelessly advocated for and provided legal counsel for clients with mental health challenges.

  • Griffin Law PLLC - Managing Attorney. Herman runs a Private legal practice in Family, Criminal, Landlord-Tenant, and Estate Planning. Herman is certified as an appointed attorney for the 31st, 36th, and 46th District courts and the Third Circuit Court (until 2018). Herman is Licensed in Michigan for all state courts and the U.S. Eastern District Federal Court of Michigan.
